What is matcha?
Matcha is a traditional green tea powder that has been specially grown in the shade, picked by hand, and ground by stone into a fine powder. Cherished for centuries by Zen Buddhist monks in the Japanese tea ceremony, matcha is rich in history, nutrients, and taste.
What’s the difference between culinary-grade matcha and ceremonial-grade matcha?
Culinary-grade matcha is a lower quality for use in cooking. If used as a tea, it has a very bitter taste. Ceremonial-grade matcha is the highest grade tea with a rich flavor profile featuring undercurrents of umami, and a sweet aftertaste.
Where is your matcha grown?
Matcha Zen’s green tea plants have been grown in Uji, in the fertile Kyoto region of Japan for hundreds of years.
What does matcha taste like?
Matcha offers a rich, complex flavor profile: first, you’ll experience the light astringent notes, then the subtle undercurrent of umami, followed by the slightly sweet aftertaste. Read more about matcha’s taste here.
How do you properly prepare matcha?
Traditionally, matcha green tea is prepared by mixing almost-boiling water and matcha powder in a ceramic bowl, using a bamboo whisk to whip the matcha into a light froth. You can use any bowl and a kitchen whisk if you don’t have traditional implements. Read more about how to prepare matcha here.

How can I check the status of my order?
Sign into your account by clicking the profile button in the upper-right corner. Once you log in, you’ll see your main Account page, where you can find the status of your order(s).
How can I change or cancel my order?
Please email hello (at) matchazentea.com as soon as possible to request changes to your order, such as quantity adjustments or cancellation. Unfortunately, orders cannot be changed or cancelled after they have been processed or shipped.
What should I do if my order hasn’t arrived or some items are missing?
Sign into your account by clicking the profile button in the top right hand corner. Once you log in, you’ll see your main Account page with your order status. Ensure that all of your items have already shipped.
If your order has shipped, you should see a Package Tracking Number. Check that number via USPS to confirm the delivery status. If USPS shows that your package was delivered, please contact your local USPS office for further details. (Matcha Zen is not responsible for USPS handling and delivery). If an item is missing from your order, contact us at hello (at) matchazentea.com for assistance.
When will backorders arrive?
Our premium matcha powder is in high demand. If we’re ever temporarily out of stock, we’ll notify you right away. While our suppliers are unable to specify when they will have backordered items in stock, we will ship them to you as soon as possible. You’ll receive an email notification the moment your order goes out for shipping.
What countries do you ship to?
Matcha Zen currently ships to the United States and Canada, but we may consider shipping to other areas for larger orders. Contact us at hello (at) matchazentea.com to discuss your options.
Please note that any orders shipped to Canada are potentially subject to duty and/or taxes. Duties, taxes and brokerage fees for shipping to Canada are not included in your order and must be paid when the package has been delivered to you. We cannot accept responsibility for these duties and/or taxes once the shipment has left the U.S.
What is your return policy?
Since our matcha is organic, non-damaged orders are non-refundable. In the rare instance that you receive a damaged order, please notify us at hello (at) matchazentea.com within 48 hours of receipt—we’ll be happy to replace your order at no extra cost.
How can I retrieve my password?
Click the profile button in the top right hand corner. On the Log In page, click the “Forgot your password?” link underneath the “Login” button. Enter the email address that you used when creating your account—you’ll receive a link to reset your password within a few minutes.
How can I verify my charges?
Sign into your account by clicking the profile button in the top right hand corner. Once you log in, you’ll see your main Account page, where you can find the order history.
